Community Participation in the Management of Public Schools in Oromia Regional State, Ethiopia

ABSTRACT 

This study is about Community participation in management of Public Schools at Oromia state Ethiopia. It examined the extent to which Communities participate in the management of Public Schools. Community participation is the independent variable while management is the dependent variable. A cross sectional study design using both quantitative and qualitative approaches on a population of 280 and a sample of 200 respondents from Oromia, PS. TTC5, HIs, Vocational Trainng Centers, state Federal Dept of education officials, community members used. A simple random sampling method and purposive sampling method were used to select the respondents. Data was collected using a questionnaire and documentary analysis. The data was analyzed using SPSS using mean, standard deviations, correlations and regression analysis. The study found out that Public schools in Oromia did not carry out effective planning and monitoring and evaluation (organizing and control practices and that planning, organizing and controlling) had a significant relationship with community participation. It stimulates increased accountability. The regression model revealed that community participation was better predictor of management of public Schools (Beta = .404, Sig.
