The project aim is to design an HVAC and HVDC transmission system using MATLAB simulation followed by testing the systems and running analytical results, reviewing their power transfer capabilities with reference to their operational performance under different situations in advent of their technological aspect.
The aims and objectives of this project are:
I. Describing HVAC and HVDC power systems with their composite topologies.
II. Comparing the transfer of power capabilities in HVAC and HVDC systems and limitations in high voltage context of environmental consideration under diversities in conditions.
III. Technological analysis in the conversion of AC to DC systems.
IV. Stability consideration in power system improvement and increasing transfer of power capability through the use of flexible alternating current transmission system (FACTS) with DC modelling.
V. Power quality enhancement.
VI. To increase transmission distance/improve transmission capacity.
Overview of This Report:
This project outlines the design procedures, implementation and real time testing of a MATLAB simulation of HVAC/HVDC transmission system. The project’s organization is as follows: Introduction; literature review on the contemporary development between HVAC and HVDC power system theories; methodology adopted; requirement analysis of the proposed systems; simulation design for the systems; unit testing; critical appraisal; conclusion of the report; recommendation for future studiesand my personal reflection on the power systems’ development.
