Efficiency of Secondary Education and Girl-Child Performance in Fort Portal Municipality, Kabarole District Western Uganda

ABSTRACT The purpose of the study was to; test the hypothesis of no significant relationship between secondary education and Girl- Child performance; validate the two theories of Perceptual- Cognitive and Reinforcement; generate new information and knowledge on efficiency of secondary education and Girl-Child performance. Finally create linkage between the existing literature reviewed and study findings. The following were the study objectives; (1) identify the social demographic characteristics of the respondents in terms of gender, age and education. (2) Determine the level of performance of the Girl-Child. (3) Identify the extent of the efficiency of secondary education ( 4) establish the significant relationship between Secondary Education and Girl-Child Performance. The study was based on the "perceptual cognitive and reinforcement theories by Bandura and Jonathan L. Freedman David. 0. Oscars. J. Marill Carl Smith (1981). A descriptive research design and random sampling technique were used to select research sample size of (67 respondents). Findings from Chapter were; females respondents stood at (52%) with an age bracket of respondents ranging from 35-45 (38.8%) dominating the study; education level of majority respondents was "O" Level students (39%). Additionally; the findings revealed that; negative social cultural attitudes and practices was ranked first with very high mean of 0.35; increased diminished enthusiasm and motivation to learn ranked first with very high a mean of 0.35 and the relationship between the level of Secondary education and Girl Child Performance was perfectly significant and null hypothesis rejected. The recommendations were; Central Government, Municipal and Local Government Education Department's should training their personnel on NOP (20110/11-2012/14) Education strategies for quality results; adopt perceptual-cognitive theory as an approach to help students emotional, behavioral and career development. The Municipal Political leadership should pass bye-laws holding parents accountable for the absenteeism and with draw of students from schools. Board of Governors, Old Students' Associations and PTA should sensitize parents, community and students on the importance of Girl-Child Education. Faith Based Organizations, NGOs should design programmes that focus on improving Girl -Child education.
