Abstract
The objectives of this research is to investigate the predictive power of Emotional Intelligence, its four composite scales and Conscientiousness among the inspector, rank and file of the Nigeria Police Force. A survey design method was adopted and data were collected through self-administered questionnaire from a sample of 189 personnel of the categories identified. The standard multiple regression analysis was performed to determine the predictive power of each of the independent factors on the criterion variable, contrary to the hypotheses set, Emotional Intelligence and its composite scales and Conscientiousness failed to significantly predict job performance among the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force. Findings suggest that the personnel of the Nigeria Police Force lack the abilities to perceive, manage own and others (suspects) emotions, as well as utilizing emotions in their job performance. Extensive data analysis, discussion and conclusion with limitations and future research directions are also discussed.
