ABSTRACT
The study was on the Impact of Fishing on primary schooling. It was a case study that was conducted in a fishing village and the schools around in Kisumu municipality. The variables under investigation were; the status of school in terms of enrollment attendance and retention, other factors affecting primary schooling and the possible curriculum reforms. Relevant literature from several authors was reviewed and was also used in defining the main terms found in the paper. The study targeted the school gong -age children in the municipality. The main respondents to the study were the school going age children, who are involved in the fishing activity and whose information was collected by use of interview schedules. Self administered questionnaires were used to collect data from the head teachers, parents and the children. A total of 120 respondents were selected through proportionate sampling procedures. The researcher used 14 days to collect the data. From the findings, the school going age children are affected by the activities that are carried out in the area hence do not attend school as required. Their response to school is poor despite the FPE grants. There is need for curriculum system in the area to be reviewed. The children should be relieved some of the duties so as concentrate in the school work and improve their performance.
