ABSTRACT

The purpose of fire fighting training is to highlight the fundamentals of fire fighting to
enable personnel fight incipient fire.

Fire is a very
rapid chemical reaction between oxygen and a combustible material, which
results in the release of heat, light, flames and smoke; or a combustion
process of oxidation characterized by the production of heat, flame and smoke.

Fire outbreak
remains one of the dangerous and costliest experiences one can ever encounter.
Fire is generally composed of three elements; fuel, oxygen and heat. Despite
the best efforts of Fire preventing, fires do occur from time to time.
Application of preventive/protective measures to control or limit fire damage
should therefore form part of our daily operational routine.

Basic fire safety
aims at highlighting the fundamentals of fire fighting, using the various items
of firefighting equipment found in a work environment or at home, to combat an
outbreak. When fighting fire, one should always think of time, because a quick
intervention will save the situation from getting out of hand. Any trained
person at the unset of fire outbreak should intervene before the arrival of
fire men However, preventive/protective measures to control or limit fire
damage is more economical, and should be part of our safety culture.
