ABSTRACT
The research on “Impacts of beverage Plant on Wetland Ecosystem” was conducted in Namanve Coca-Cola factory-Mukono district, central Uganda. The research was guided by the objectives of the study which included; examining the nature or type of industrial production in Namanve and to determine the possible causes of pollution from industries to their surroundings. The researcher used qualitative and quantitative techniques to collect, analyze and output data. Results of the study came up with the major issues as: On the nature or type of industrial production in Namanve and the findings revealed that beverage production, production of bottles and production of fertilizers were the answers given by the respondents. On the possible causes of pollution from industries to the environment, findings showed lack of waste treating facilities, absence of filters, disposal of contaminated wastes and lack of pollution control systems were the answers given by the respondents. On the impact of industrial wastes on wetland ecosystem in Namanve and the findings revealed that; death of aquatic life, drought, destruction of plant species, and soil contamination are the answers given by the respondents. The findings revealed that treatment of industrial wastes before disposal, proper installation of filters and precipitators, respect of environmental laws, and disposal of wastes are the answers given by the respondents. The researcher suggests that pollution control systems need to be used by the industries so as to control industrial pollution in Uganda. This is because lack of effluent treatment plants in a large number of industries is a cause of concern with regard to both surface and ground water/wetland pollution, yet proper operation and maintenance of the effluent treatment plants is critical for ensuring that the effluents are treated in desired levels in Uganda.
