Abstract

This research extends previous work on measuring two dimensions of self-disclosure attributes

with gender and self-esteem. One hundred participants were selected using purposive sampling

method. Psychological instruments were data collection. Data obtained were analyzed using the

statistical package for social sciences (SPSS). Three hypotheses were tested using Two-way

Analysis of Variance. Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Independent sample t-test. The

result showed that there is no significant joint influence of gender and self-esteem on selfdisclosure

attributes. the result of the analysis further inJicates that self-esteem has independent

positive influence on self-disclosure attrihutes, while gender has no significant influence on selfdisclosure

attributes. Therefore, hypothesis ,vhich stated there will be joint influence of gender

and self-esteem on self-disclosure attributes wns rejected. The result also indicated that selfesteem

has no significant relationship with self-disclosure attributes. This suggests that there is

no significant relationship between cl f-esteem and self-disclosure attributes among

undergraduates or FUOYE. The result indicated thac there is a significant gender difference on

self-disclosure attribute . further anal) is suggested that ma!e students displayed significant

higher level or self-disclosure attributes than their lemalc counterparts: therefr1re. the hypothesis

stated there will be gender difference on self- disclosure attributes was accepted. It wns

concluded that gender nnd self-esteem should be considered _as important in intervention

programmes of self-disclosure attributes among undergraduates of FUOYE. Future studies necci

to be conducted to better determine ho\ self'-csteem and self-disclosure attributes affects the way people interact in other aspect of social relationships (like religious settings).
