Abstract
The paper examines the advent of the internet versus library usage in the Nigerian library of the 21st century,libraries are service organizations where individuals, organizations, and societies are provided unhindered access tosubstantial quantities of information; the internet can be broadly defined as world wide network of computerscommunicating via an agreed upon protocol (rules for exchange of information), it provides access to the mostdiversified source of information hosted by individuals and various organization worlds wide on a vast network ofservers; the internet improves on the service delivery of libraries and cannot replace the library for the followingreasons: Not everything is available on the internet, the internet is not free, the internet compliments the libraries,but does not replace them, library collections employ a well-formulated citation system; the following need to bedone to make internet more functional in the Nigerian libraries: Provision of funds, provision of stable powersupply, training, and making cost of internet materials affordable.
