PRODUCTION OF BIOORGANIC LIQUID FERTILIZER FROM COW MANURE AND GROUNDNUT HUSK

Abstract:

Organic Liquid Fertilizer made from the decomposition of organic material such as plant residue and animal waste through anaerobic fermentation comprises number of growth substances, vitamins, antibiotics, amino acids and useful micro-organisms. The advantage of these fertilizers resolve a deficient of nutrient and provide the additionally faster nutrient supply. Thus, the present study was aimed to produce organic liquid fertilizer from cow manure and groundnut husks through aerobic fermentation in open containers to check its quality. These trials were carried out in three replications of the complete randomized block design in the green house. The result indicated that macro nutrient composition of organic fertilizer and compost tea solutions indicated that Potassium (K), Calcium (Ca), Magnesium (Mg) and also sodium (Na) were found to be significant between organic liquid fertilizer and compost tea (used as a control) solutions. The quality of this fertilizer solution produced in the present study with respect to PH, EC and C: N ratio indicated that both compost tea and organic liquid fertilizer solutions fulfill the basic requirements of plant macro nutrients with respect to electrical conductivity and C: N ratio. For most plants the optimum PH range is from 5.0 to 7.5. However, according to this study, the PH 8.52.Therefore, the PH of this fertilizer needs adjustment to the neutral range between 5.0 to 7.5 which is optimum for most crop plants and vegetables. It was found that the composition of fertilizer solution in the present study satisfies the standard with bio organic liquid fertilizer being higher in mean values for all of the studied parameters. It was indicated that the performance of lettuce irrigated with fertilizer solution was performing better than compost tea solution and without any fertilizer (control) plant. Above ground biomass weight per plant (BMW) Leaf Length per plant (LLP) was found to be significant among all treatments: lettuce irrigated with bio organic liquid fertilizer; with compost tea, and without any fertilizer. It can be concluded from the present study to produce from locally available substrates like cow manure and groundnut husks. Small holder farmers can get economic relief, because by using this technology, so, they can minimize the use of chemical fertilizer which is being expensive and not environmentally friendly.
