THE PROBLEM AND PROSPECTS OF SECRETARIAL PROFESSION IN THE NIGERIAN CIVIL SERVICE (A CASE STUDY OF SOME MINISTRIES IN YENAGOA

Abstract

The Nigerian civil service faces some problems in the lack of qualified and inadequate working environment for secretaries working in the ministries.

This paper identifies the problems and prospects of the secretarial profession in the Nigerian civil service. It gives prospect such as modern technology and information systems relevant for secretaries working in the ministries. It evaluates the availability of modern office technology for secretaries, promotions and trainings and good acknowledgment of the secretaries working in the ministries by the management. It finally draws conclusions and recommendations among others that the management of these ministries should establish standards for secretaries being employed and create an avenue for installing all modern technology and information systems that are relevant to the secretary's profession.
