Role Of Human Resource Management In Redressing Employee’s Turnover In The Higher Learning Institutions: A Case Study Of The University Of Dodoma And St John University Of Tanzania

ABSTRACT

The study aimed at investigating the role of human resource management in redressing employees‟ turnover in the higher learning institutions a case study of the University of Dodoma and St John University of Tanzania. A general objective was to examine the role of human resource management, in redressing employee‟s turnover, in the higher learning institutions. Specific objectives were to determine the magnitude of employee‟s turnover at the University of Dodoma and St. John University of Tanzania, to examine the role of human resource management in retaining employees, and examine the effects of staff turnover at the University of Dodoma and St. John University of Tanzania. The method of data collection employed include, structured interviews and questionnaires. The findings of this study have revealed that most of employees did not retain their jobs in higher learning institutions. Most of the employees tend to shift from one university to another, and those who managed to remain to their jobs are those ones who were with a low level of education. This is because only 27% said that they have maintained their position for 5 and above years. The study also has revealed that there was poor involvement by employees in the strategic planning which brought a gap between employers and employees. It counted out also that the effects observed includes; employee turnover increased the administrative costs which results from recruitment procedures, it also reduces the performance of the employees due to the fact that some of them who were left were overloaded with unfinished works left behind and at the same time employee turnover affects the good image of the organization as it might be bad perceived by the entire community The study recommends ways in which would be used to reduce the turnover in many high learning institutions, which include the provision of good salary packages and other fringe benefits as well as an improvement of working conditions.
