ABSTRACT
The study was about the socio-economic impact of polygamy on the children in Ngata Division,
Rongai District in Kenya. This area was chosen because polygamy is still being practiced there
and a number of problems are faced in those homes.
The review of related literature was done and views of the scholars were summarized and
criticism was done by the researcher in order to fill the research gaps identified. The methods
used to collect data were questionnaire and interviews.
Three objectives and the research questions were set for the study. It was found out that
polygamy has a big impact on the socio-economic life of the children especially their conduct,
education and economic welfare.
From these findings the researcher found out that there are other factors which influence the
conduct, education and economic welfare of the family like hereditary and environmental
factors.
The major recommendation by the research way to improve the family income; encourage
monogamy and family planning programmes. The church and the government should work
together to improve the general welfare of the family.
