Abstract
The research work examined the socio-economics determinant of multidimensional poverty among yam farmer. This study attempted to establish the multidimensional poverty among yam farmer on residents of Saki West local government area of Oyo state. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequencies and percentage while hypothesis were tested using inferential statistics such as logit regression model. Result of the data analysis shows that the modal age group (39.17%) fall between 41 – 50 years, most (74.17%) of the respondent are male, (73.33%) married, (60.83%) are Christians. most of the farmer had more than 10 years experience. (30.83%) of the respondents are used pit latrine, most of them (73.33%) source water from dogged well. The results shows the relative contribution of dimension of multidimensional poverty indices the highest contribution is from housing dimension with 0.5285 at K=1. This is followed by the health with 0.2001 at k=1, then asset dimension with 0.121 at k=1, the next to it is education with 0.1193 at k=1 and the least is sanitation with 0.03104 at k=1. Similar result is reported at k=3. The results showed that the respondents’ age, year of experience, education, farm size, social group, total income are determinants of multidimensional poverty among yam farmers in the study area, and they are statically significant. Based on the major findings of the study, the following recommendations were made:The yam farmers should engage less in social group order to have more time to work on their farm, to increased farm productivity, The farmer should tried and cut their expenditure power, to reduced the poverty level and people in the study area should be encouraged to go into yam faring at early aged.
