The Contribution of Post-Conflict World Bank Development Programmes in Consolidating Peace in Somalia: 2017 -2021

Abstract:

Ever since the collapse of the Siad Barre, Somalia has received many foreign- funded programmes in an attempt to stabilize the country. However, Somalia continues to face many security, political, and economic challenges. The main objective of this research is to examine the extent to which the programmes instituted by the World Bank have contributed to peaceful co-existence in Somalia. The Specific objectives include: Inquire into the role of development programmes by the World Bank in uplifting the living standards of the people in Somalia, Examine the role of the World Bank development programmes in fostering peaceful reconciliation in Somalia, Examine the extent to which these programmes have acted to reduce the level of insecurity in Somalia. The methodology in research comprises of the specific procedures or techniques used to identify, select, process and analyze information about a given phenomenon. It allows the reader to critically evaluate a study's overall validity and reliability. chapter three explains the methodology that the study will rely on. The section defines the target population, data collection methods and instruments, data analysis techniques and presentation. It also states the ethical considerations. The study found out that peacebuilding is increasingly conceptualized as a strategy that integrates different modes of involvement into a comprehensive approach to conflict resolution. Somalia needs a conflict development programmes for its reconstruction unlike the World Bank for Somalia that appears to be stillborn unless some fundamental changes are affected by the World Bank and the Somali government. The developments in Somalia is also influenced by Somalia’s neighbors, especially Ethiopia and Kenya. Any solution to the Somali conflict needs to be a regional one.
