The Impact Of Training Programmes On Employees’ Performance In The Public Sector In Tanzania: A Case Of Tanroads-Dodoma

ABSTRACT

This study investigated the impact of Training programmes on Employees‟ Performance in the Public Sector in Tanzania, whereby TANROADS-Dodoma was used as a case study. The study was conducted so as to find out how training programmes enhance employees‟ work performance for quality outcomes. The review of the literature conducted explains and highlights the role of effective training and feedback, in improving the quality of task process which ultimately results in the improvement of performance of employees. The field data was collected through questionnaires, interview guides and check list to find the results. Findings of this study have been analyzed and discussed quantitatively and qualitatively for interpretations. The research findings have revealed that, training programmes have been implemented by the agency (TANROADS), to improve knowledge and skills of its workers for the purpose of improving their working capabilities that could enable them perform duties and responsibilities effectively and efficiently. However, the study explored some hindrances which have been affecting negatively proper and adequate provision of trainings to all workers, which included inadequate funds, lack of proper use and violation of training guidelines in selecting workers to attend various trainings. It can be concluded that training programmes have not been implemented at an acceptable level to enhance workers capabilities. The researcher recommends on improving financial support to institutions, review and establishment of training policy that will arrange and adopt more effective training programmes and techniques, in order to give the progressive shape of empowering employees technically, mentally and physically.
