The Interface between the War on Terror and Huma N Rights: A Case Study of Kenya

Abstract:

The need to fight terror has become not only an American issue but it has been globalized and thus branded the Global War on Terror. While the threat of terrorism still remains in question among many states, the actual acts of terror have caused a disturbance to people and thus breached the rights of the victims as well as questioned the state's security. The War on Terror, accepted by many and many more yet to see the essence, has not only come with human rights violations within the respective states but also eroded their sovereignty. This thesis discusses the war on terror and human rights violations in Kenya with a few statements on the violations internationally. Chapter one introduces the thesis, defines terrorism and the war on terror as well as gives backgrounds of the former. It also reviews terrorism, the war on terror and human rights violations consequent to the war on terror. Chapter two discusses the war on terror in Kenya, the supporters of the war and also discusses the Anti-Terrorism Bill. Chapter three discusses the war on terror and human rights violations in Kenya and the Guantanamo Bay. Chapter four looks at individual case studies of human rights violations in the country in the fight to suppress terror and finally chapter five concludes the thesis as well as provide recommendations as to the war forward.
