BACKGROUND TO THE STUDY
This research is an attempt to examine the Iwude festival in Ilesa, an understanding of this will help us to appreciate the influence of the festival on the people. Ilesa is the largest town and the capital of Ilesa kingdom in Osun state Nigeria. It lies in the Yoruba hills at the intersection of roads from Ile-ife, Oshogbo, and Akure. Ilesa formerly a caravan trade center and the home of “OSOMALO” (Osomaalo) a word used to describe the process of debt collection “I will not sit until collected my money” is today an agricultural, commercial and processing city situation in a region in which cocoa, kolanuts and yam are produced and there is a sawmill and alluvial gold is found and mined. For a clear understanding this work is divided into four chapters. The first chapter introduced the work, chapter two highlight and examine the tradition of origin and also there socio, political and economical activities. Chapter three discuss the Iwude festival and it richness in history. Chapter discusses the significance, summary and conclusion of the work.
