The Management Of Public Enterprises In Nigeria: A Case Study Of Nigerian Telecommunication

ABSTRA CT

This thesis provides information on the Management of Public

Enterprises in Nigeria: A Case Study of Nigerian Telecommunication, a

Federal Government statutory public corporation, dealing with

communication aspect in Nigeria. It focused attention on all relevant

bodies that have connection with communication. This project attempt

to explain the general concepts of public enterprises, and its

management, thereby relating it to the Nigerian Telecommunication

Limited. The constraints of the Nigerian Telecommunication the

resultant effect of efficient management or otherwise were also

highlighted in the course of the study. These include the maintenance

problem, political and shortage of good quality labour. Realizing the

above mentioned factors therefore the study's soul aim was to find out

how these problems affected the management of this important public

corporation (The Nigerian Telecommunication limited).

The study also highlighted the operational problem encountered by

Nigerian Telecommunication either due to inconsistent political or

procedural process. From the hypothesis that efficient management to

public enterprises 1s associated with national

development is therefore justified when such co-operations are essential

for accomplishment of some public developmental purposes that cannot

easily be obtained through private enterprise either as a result of the

capital involved or low profit. The accomplishment interest of the

objectives of public enterprises is a function of efficient management has

been clearly j ustified. It is therefore hoped that the thesis has brought

into light, the operation activities and constraints of the Nigerian

Telecommunication Limited with recommendation for improvements.
