ABSTRACT The research on “role of the media in preserving culture in Ugand& was conducted in WBS TV (Wavah Broadcasting services) which is located in Uganda’s capital-Kampala The sample size of 100 respondents were chosen and this included; 40 WBS workers, 3Ô journalists, 5 media anqlysts, 5 cultural activists, and the 20 community members. The responses got from these respondents were generalized to the whole population in Uganda The research was guided by the objectives of the study which included; finding out how the media preserves culture in Ugandan, finding out the challenges faced by the media in preserving culture in Uganda, and finding out the effects of international media on local culture. Research objective one sought to establish how the media preserves culture in Ugandan and the findings revealed that; moral degeneration, adoption of strange way of life, crime increase and hostility were the answers given by the respondents Objective two sought to find out the challenges faced by the media in preserving culture in Uganda and the findings revealed that; inadequate resources, government attacks, poor cooperation with the public and poor access to information; and objective number three sought to find out the effects of international media on local culture and the findings revealed that; playing of Ugandan music, teaching of Ugandan culture, showing of Ugandan movies, casting of Ugandan TV programmes. Conclusions and recommendations were later mnde after interpreting and analyzing data.
