To Examine Sense Of Stakeholders‟ Participation, Ownership And Sustainability Of Donor Funded Projects; A Case Of Iramba District

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to examine the role of people‟s participation as stake holders in the

donor funded projects in school buildings projects in Iramba district. The specific

objective of this study were to determining the factors influencing the sustainability

of school building projects in Iramba after the donor withdrawing, Assess the impact

of participation, and sense of ownership towards sustainability of school building

projects in Iramba districts, Challenges facing the school building projects in Iramba

districts.

The study used cross-sectional survey method by interviewing, administering of

questionnaire and observation as data collecting tools. The sample included 100

respondents and research design was qualitative research approach. The findings

from this study showed that the Iramba Municipal understands the importance of

people‟s participation in the donor funded projects. Also there are reasons for the

failure to sustainability of the donor funded school building projects after the donors

withdrawing from the projects. Most of the reasons for the failure can be removed if

the people as the first stakeholders of the projects are getting involved actively in

donor funded projects.

From the finding obtained from the field work the study concluded that with people‟s

participation as the stake holders in the donor funded projects most of the donor

funded projects can be sustainable even if the donors have withdrawn from the

projects. As well the study recommends that the donor funded projects in Iramba

district is associated with many challenges such as poor participation of people, lack

of skills, poor technology and low awareness of the people on donor funded projects.

At the end the study recommended by making some suggestions on both the

community of Iramba that the people of Iramba should take the donor funded

projects as their belongingness. The Iramba Municipal Council should put some

strategy so as to ensure that the community is full participating in Donor funded

projects.
