Wearable devices at Work

The effects of the workplace on the safety, health, and productivity of personnel can be seen at various levels. To protect and boost general worker health, innovative hardware and software tools have been developed for the detection, elimination, substitution, and regulation of occupational hazards. Wearable technologies make it possible for constant tracking of workers and their environment, whereas connected worker solutions provide contextual information and support for decision-making. Here, the most recent trends in workplace technologies used to monitor and manage occupational risks, injuries, accidents, and illnesses are evaluated. Wearables for safe lifting, ergonomics, hazard recognition, sleep monitoring, fatigue management, and heat and cold stress in the workplace are all discussed. Samples of workplace productivity wearables, such as those for asset tracking, augmented reality, gesture and motion control, brain wave sensing, and work strain management, are explained. Wearables designed for work-related musculoskeletal disorders, functional movement disorders, respiratory hazards, cardiovascular health, outdoor sun exposure, and continuous glucose monitoring in the workplace are also mentioned. Information about the structure, system modules, intelligent operations, and industry applications of connected worker platforms is given. Predictive analytics give contextual details about occupational safety hazards, resource allocation, equipment malfunction, and predictive maintenance. All these examples point out the advantages of real-time insight into frontline workers, the workplace, distributed assets, workforce efficiency, and safety compliance.
