Performance evaluation is a systematic evaluation of an individual with respect to performance on the job and individual's potential for development

Purpose of Performance Evaluation:

1. Performance evaluation guides management or organisation to take major decision on transfer, promotion career planing and termination.

2. It serves as a guide to training and development.

3. It strives for merit. performance and reward

4. Organisational development and individual advancement is one of the uses of performance rating and  appraisal.

A sound performance evaluation mechanism should be the major goal of every organisation. In doing so  human resource department must in consultation with other department heads prepare a recommendations and suggestions on a wider objectives on performance appraisal. whatever maybe the format for the  appraisal, the appraisee must be genuinely involved to allow for genuine integration.
