Administrative Problems Encountered by Public Primary School Head teachers in Kalamba Division, Nzaui District Kenya.

ABSTRACT The purpose of this research study was to investigate and examine the problems encountered by primary school head teachers during their day-to-day work of administering primary schools in Kalamba Division. The objectives of the study were to identify the kind of administrative problems encountered by public primary school head teachers, determine whether administration problems have any effect on the academic performance of pupils, and to suggest ways on how such problems can be solved/ addressed. The methods used for data collection were questionnaires to the head teachers. The questionnaire was divided in to two paits. Part one of the questionnaire was used to gather demographic data of respondents such as age, professional qualification, academic qualification, and administration experience. Part two gathered information on the administrative problems encountered by the head teachers. The study discovered head teachers identified lack of enough teachers, lack of sufficient facilities, lack of enough funds, frequent transfer of teachers with out replacement, lack of adequate training to handle financial management and high rate of illiteracy among parents among others. The study recommended that more teachers should be employed by the Ministry of Education Science and Technology in order to ease the problem of lack of enough teachers, the Ministry of Education Science and Technology should ensure that the grant-in-aid given to the primary schools reach in time. This will help in solving the problem of unnecessary delay to buy materials for the schools and there should be intensification of seminars, workshops, and refresher courses on financial management for head teachers and their deputies. This will help in solving the problem of financial management.
