Abstract:

This study aimed to comprehend the influence of local radio reporting in conflict management, a case study of Tana Delta Region. Conflict in Tana Delta Region has been on and off for a long time. This led to a need for a further analysis of the recurrent conflict despite various efforts to manage conflict and promote peace building in the area. The research questions that guided this study were: What role is played by local radio as a medium of communication in influencing conflict management? What are the effects of local radio reporting in conflict management? And what challenges does local radio reporting faces in its efforts to influence conflict management in Tana Delta Region? The general objective of the study was to assess how local radio reporting influences conflict management in Tana Delta Region to minimize the endemic inter-communal violence and the specifics objective were to find out the effects of local radio reporting in influencing conflict management and to find out the challenges local radio reporting faces in influencing conflict management. This study used mixed methods approach where the researcher used both qualitative and quantitative data to analyze data collected. Also. a sample of 100 subjects from Tana Delta Region were administered with questionnaires and interviews which yielded a wide variety of useful information as they included both closed and open ended questions and data was collected from many and varied respondents.
