ANALYSIS OF THE BASIC EDUCATION CERTIFICATE EXAMINATION RESULTS IN INTEGRATED SCIENCE: A STUDY OF PUBLIC JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOLS IN THE EFFUTU MUNICIPALITY OF THE CENTRAL REGION

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the research was to investigate into Basic Education Certificate Examination Results in Integrated Science of Public Junior High Schools in the Effutu Municipality. The main instrument used for the data collection was interviews. The population for the study was made up of Junior High Schools in the Effutu Municipality. The sample size was twenty-eight (28). The research design that was employed by the researcher was the ex-post facto design. The study revealed that BECE results were kept in only hard copies without the Municipal Education Office making use of current electronic means of keeping records. It was also found that the safe-keeping of records were compromised as the Municipal Education Office lacked storage systems. Finally, results from the findings revealed a declining pass rate in Integrated Science in the Basic Education Certificate Examinations. Number of recommendations were made, pertinent among them being that Municipal Education Offices be furnished with modern computers with its corresponding accessories by the Ghana Education Service or any philanthropic body to enable the office have access to not only hard copy but also soft copies of importance official documents like BECE results.
