Assessing the Disparities of Data in Monthly Returns Midwife's (Form A) in the PRU East District

ABSTRACT

Background: Midwife returns form A is the standard operational reporting format used in Ghana Health Services (GHS) and World Health Organization (WHO) globally to report on maternal and child health care activities. However, it is common to observe that data generated by health care providers in the health facilities and at community outreach services have gaps either left. The aim of the study was to improve maternal and child health care data

Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study involving a review of records of Monthly Midwives Returns Form A collected during the first quarter of 2021 was used. A sample size of six (6) facilities was randomly selected for the study. Data were analyzed using Microsoft Excel 2016 software. Descriptive summaries (frequencies and proportions) were calculated.

Results: The study revealed high completeness of data in the monthly midwives' returns sheet. Also, none of the facilities recorded 100% data accuracy and quality in the Monthly Midwives Form A with total registrants and total deliveries by age group compared. The study also revealed high accuracy and quality of data.

Conclusions: It was concluded that there was high completeness of data in the monthly midwives returns sheet (report), low data accuracy and quality in the Monthly Midwives Form A with total registrants and total deliveries by age group compared and high accuracy of data transfer from Monthly Midwives Returns Form A. Ghana Health Service together with stakeholders should organize in-service training for all health workers who compile Monthly Midwives Returns Form A to help improve data accuracy, quality, and completeness.
