ABSTRACT
This study presents an analysis of air cargo traffic patterns in Nigeria, focusing on the trends observed over a specific period (2006-2022). The data used for this analysis includes information on the volume of air cargo transported in Nigeria from various sources. The study examines the changes in air cargo traffic over time, identifying key factors that have influenced the patterns observed.
.The data types were obtained through secondary source. The secondary data were abstracted from published and unpublished documents such as the number, air cargo from National Bureau Statistics, digest of statistics and other reliable sources were also used for the study.
The study found number of traffic attributed to Lagos airports varies greatly from year to year, ranging from 101.34 in 2006 to a high of 861.98 in 2011. Abuja also show some variation, with a low of 129.23 in 2019 and a high of 699.13 in 2013. Porhacourt have the 121.3 in 2018 and to a high of 625.23 in 2014. Lastly Kano varies from lowest number of traffic with 131.2 to a high of 782.98. This shows that Kano has the highest traffic with a high of 782.98 in 2015. Overall, the data suggests that air cargo occurred in Lagos, Abuja, Port-harcourt. The study recommends collaborating with stakeholders develop effective strategies for reducing the incidence of accidents
The study recommends that invest in the development of air cargo infrastructure, including cargo terminals, warehouses, and handling facilities. This will help accommodate the growing demand for air cargo and improve efficiency in cargo operations; embrace technological advancements in air cargo operations, such as automated cargo handling systems, tracking and tracing technologies, and electronic documentation processes. This will improve efficiency, reduce errors, and enhance overall cargo handling capabilities.
