Challenges Facing Teaching -Learning Facilities in Selected Kenyan Public Secondary Schools

ABSTRACT The study aimed at establishing the Challenges as to Sources of Funds for Instructional and Infrastructural facilities in selected Kenyan Public Secondary Schools. The study adopted a descriptive research design. Findings were analyzed using tables and other descriptive statistics. The study established that there were a number of challenges facing sources of funds for Instructional and infrastructural facilities in secondary schools, among them being uncooperative sponsors, political interference and mismanagement of funds and other emergent issues such as HIV/AIDs, The study had the following objectives: Identifying sources of finances for instructional and infrastructural facilities in Kenyan public secondary schools. Availability and condition of Instructional and Infrastructural facilities, Instructional and Infrastructural challenges facing public secondary schools, Relationship between the length of period a school had existed and the level of Instructional and Infrastructural facilities. The study recommended that sources of finances for Instructional and Infrastructural facilities be increased to cater for the increase in students to secondary schools. Most schools had insufficient Instructional and Infrastructural facilities but a few were having adequate and poorly maintained facilities. Most schools had many challenges regarding Instructional and Infrastructural facilities. Schools which had existed for along time had more Instructional and Infrastructural facilities unlike those schools which had existed for a short time. Managers of schools should be trained in financial management and other stakeholders be involved in the implementation of school programmes. The government should also reorganize the disbursement of C.D~F funds so that they are released in good time to coincide with the period during which schools are in dire need. Schools should develop income generating activities to increase revenue for physical development of schools to improve or develop facilities by using locally available resources.
