The research paper examine commercial driver’s behavior and their zero tolerance on Nigerian roads precisely Abeokuta local government and ijebu-ode local governments Area of Ogun State. The paper pinpoints commercial drivers’ behavior and their zero tolerance on Nigerian highways as it affects and deteriorates the environment. The paper also proffers probable solution that will reduce road accidents via vehicular-vehicular, vehicular-pedestrians, vehicular-cyclist accidents both occurring on the highway on most Nigerian roads. Furthermore, it elaborates the negative performance of commercial drivers as it affects the political, socio-economic and cultural role of the economy which poses negative impacts or danger on the environment and human life. To achieve this objective, the study elicited data through questionnaire of 100 randomly selected respondents. Simple percentages and chi-square were employed to analyze elicited data at 0.05 levels of significance.
Finally, it proffers recommendations to the aforementioned bane by which effective and efficient orientation programme can be organized so as to equip the drivers with necessary skills and knowledge that will avert unnecessary mistakes behind the wheel.
