EFFECT OF RETRENCHMENT ON THE MORALE OF WORKERS IN INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ORGANISATION

Retrenchment has become a popular method of boosting organisation performance. Although retrenchments are rapidly being used as part of normal management strategies, their effectiveness in boosting performance is unknown. Retrenchment is typically used to improve organisational performance by enhancing productivity, lowering expenses, and gaining a competitive edge. In some cases, retrenchments have shown to be helpful in achieving these goals. However, a growing number of studies appear to imply that retrenchment results in a minor improvement, if any, in organisational performance and, in some cases, a decline.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of layoffs on survivor employees' job satisfaction, dedication, emotional and physical well-being and ultimately, job performance.
