The Sub-Saharan Africa trails other regions about key human development indicators, produces less than 1 percent of the global research output despite having 12.5 percent of the global population. If the region is to advance on its human capital developmentindicators, it must embrace action research in taking advantage of the untapped  opportunities existing. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the effects of strategic leadership on organizational performance in private universities in Kenya. The specific research questions were: How do mission and vision affect organizational performance in private universities in Kenya?
