Abstract:

The study sought to examine the extent to which social security has been extended to old aged people in Kenya. The study focused on the following research questions: what is the extent of social security Programme to the old aged people in Kenya?; how has the social security fund enhanced the basic rights of the old aged people in Kenya?; and what is the effectiveness of the cash transfer Programme on the old aged people in Kenya?. The study used comparative research design to gather secondary data for analysis. The data was gathered from publications based on data from the World Values Surveys, government records, non-profit organisations (NGOs) records, media articles, and studies related to the current topic. The data obtained was analysed using content and principle component analysis. The analysis shows that the Kenyan government has progressively put resources into social assurance programs in help of matured and powerless people in the nation. In sub-Saharan Africa Kenya included, under 10% of the more established populace has a contributory benefit. Cash Transfer Programs were first structured and executed in Latin America. Mexico's Progresa (Progress) program was the primary CT experience. The analysis has found that OECD nations work the most broad standardized savings programs. The analysis recommends that Kenya ought to logically put resources into social assurance programs for the old and other marginalized groups. The investigation suggests that, like in the United States, Britain and Germany, for fruitful usage of Cash Transfer Programs, sub-Saharan nations Kenya included ought to create stringent Cash Transfer Programs strategies so as to add to the accomplishment of the five Millennium Development Goals, that is, annihilation of outrageous neediness and craving, advancing sex balance and engaging ladies, decrease of tyke mortality, battling HIV/AIDS, intestinal sickness and different ailments, and building up a worldwide association for improvement.
