Faculty Of Environmental Studies Building Complex For University Of Uyo "A Study Of Effective Spatial Analysis And Integration Of Functions In Large Complex Buildings"

ABSTRACT

Architectural design is ultimately about the configurations, connections , shapes, and

orientations of physical forms. This study seeks to explore the architectural space and then

focuses on the "study of effective spatial analysis and integration of functions in large

complex buildings". Design begins by generating ideas and transforming them into concrete

spatial formations and spaces that are accessible to a wide range of users in large complexes.

This study has revealed series of spatial configurational and planning systems such as the

linear, centralized, radial, clustered and grid pattern with their various navigable circulation

system which are workable to decode a functional layout of spaces in large complexes . It is

from this standpoint that the careful analysis of the various spatial planning system and space

organization in large complexes is very important. The faculty of environmental studies,

University of Uyo was chosen as a case for possible evaluation and implementation of

research findings. Analysis of some foreign and local case studies based on their spatial

qualities and organizational concept, were adopted in the design in order to achieve effective

planning and organization. The orientation of regular and geometric shape and the

combination of linear and clustered spatial system of planning to integrate functions in the

building complex, thereby, transforming of physical spaces into quality educational spaces

which will contribute to the intellectual , affective and social development of student within

the academic context.
