EXPERIMENTAL DETERMINATION OF THE MOLECULAR WEIGHT OF SOME BINARY MIXTURES AND PETROLEUM LIQUIDS

ABSTRACT Accurate molecular weights of pure compounds are available and can be readily obtained in the literature. However. those of binary and multi-component mixtures are not readily available and are usually obtained from pure components by applying mixing rules. which may not be very accurate. The molecular weights of n-Nonane+n-Tetradecane. nc;exane+n-Nonane. n-Hexane+Toluene, Toluene+n-Tetradecane and some petroleum liquids were experimental I: determined using a cryoscope. The results...

In this experiment, the effect of time of irrigation (morning and evening) and amount of irrigation (100%ETc, 90%ETc and 80%ETc) on the growth, yield, physicochemical quality, shelf life, WUE and economic value of sweet pepper was investigated using completely randomized design with 3 replic...

FACTORS AFFECTING THE PROFITABILITY OF RETAIL FUEL OUTLETS IN URBAN AREAS: A CASE STUDY OF ACCRA

ABSTRACT Many fuel stations in Ghana have explored alternative sources of income in order to remain profitable and it is a concern that there are too many fuel stations, resulting in an overtraded market. The retail fuel outlet businesses in the country incorporated the usage of various market mix elements to improve their profitability, price positioning, and competitive advantage to survive and grow (Johne & Davies, 2002). Achieving efficient and effective product marketing strategy by an o...

Comparative Study of Corrosion Behaviour of Nickel and Gold Plated Carbon Steels Used as Ornamentals in Saline Environment

Abstract This study investigated the corrosion resistance of plated and unplated steels useful as ornamentals in saline environment. Nickel plating of carbon steel was done in watts solution for 25minutes with a current density of 3 Adm-3 at 60o C. The nickel plated carbon steel was later gold plated for 20 minutes with a current density of 0.2 Adm-3 at 50o C . The plated and unplated carbon steels were immersed in saline environment for 360 hours. Weight loss was taken every 24 hours in orde...

Hatchery Production Optimisation Using Monte Carlo Approach

ABSTRACT Optimization of hatchery production processes was carried out using the Monte Carlo method. In the economics. of engineering decisions with the objective of the investor identifying an optimum solution. an investor chooses his or her optimal solution from the set of scenarios that offer maximum expected return for varying levels of risk. Outcomes associated with these random numbers are then analysed to determine the likely results and the associated risks. Taking a major day old h...

Development and Evaluation of Pineapple (Ananas comosus [L.] Merr.) Pomace Based Extruder

ABSTRACT In large scale juice processing, about 65% of the pineapple is extracted as juice, while the remaining 35% is the by-product called pineapple pomace. Pomace generated from juice processing constitutes a disposal problem and environmental pollution and there is no processing equipment designed in addressing this problem through the utilisation of this byproduct. This study was designed to develop a mash extruder for pineapple pomace based flour. Pineapple pomace was analysed for its...

Local Sourcing of Raw Materials for the Manufacture of Manual Metal Arcwelding Electrode: A Case for Locally Produced Steelwire in Nigeria

ABSTRACT Since early 1995 when pressure was mounted on the Raw Materials Research and development council in Nigeria, with a  view to sourcing wire, flux and binder locally, little or no success has been recorded. As at 1998,allthe raw materials including core wire for electrode manufacture in Nigeria were still being imported. The aim of this project is therefore to explore the possibility of using locally sourced wire in electrode production. In this research, wire drawn at the Oshogbo rol...

CERAMIC ENGINES:MATERIAL PROPERTIES FOR HIGHER PERFORMANCE

ABSTRACT The four stroke reciprocating internal combustion engine has been used as a case study, being that commonly utilized in most automobiles. General properties of ceramics were discussed while exposure was given to some high performance ceramics. theoretical deduction and analysis were then carried out to show improved engine performance using ceramic components. The engine performance parameters considered are (i) power output (ii) mean effective pressure (iii) speed of engine rotation...

APPLICATION OF NEUROFUZZY TO COMPONENT ELEMENTS OF A GRINDING WHEEL

ABSTRACT The grinding wheel is made up of very small, sharp and hard silicon carbide abrasive particles or grits held together by strong porous bond. These silicon carbide abrasive are hard crystalline materials which are held together by the strong, porous bond and these abrasive materials which are of extreme hardness are used to shape other materials by a grinding or abrading action. The paper presents, an analysis of the various component elements we have, the size of the grains and its s...

PROPILE SJMULATION SOFTWARE FOR TRIGONOMETRIC AND POLYNOMIAL CAMS DESIGN

ABSTRACT This paper discusses the development of unique software for the design of various cam profiles for she plate cam operating a flat face follower. The method employed in this work is that of generating geometrical cam coordinates using standard cam motions, thereby avoiding the problem of undercutting resulting from graphical layout methods for similar cam and follower types. Determination of critical designs output parameters were carried out by the developed software computational a...

THE EFFECTS OF OIL AND GAS EXPLORATION ON THE SOCIOECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF JOMORO DISTRICT OF GHANA

ABSTRACT Several works have explored the relationship between oil and gas exploration and the livelihood. Such works posit that the two are undeniable inversely related (Auty, 1993; Le Billon, 2005; Basedau, 2005). Inferring from the state of oil exploration and its effects on the livelihoods of the host communities, one observes the significant role oil and gas exploration play in the national economy while at the same time impoverishes the host communities. Thus, using the positivist approa...
