Comparative of Field Effect Transistor (FET) and Bipolar Power Transistor Performance in Amplifiers

This research work focuses on the comparative of FET and Bipolar power transistor performance in amplifiers. Field effect transistors (FET) have been widely used as transducers in electrochemical sensors for over 40 years. In this report, a FET transducer is compared with the recently proposed bipolar junction transistor (BJT) transducer. Measurements are performed on two chloride electrochemical sensors that are identical in all details except for the transducer device type. Comparative meas...

Electricity Generation Using Propeller Shaft

ABSTRACT A vehicle such as a large truck Can generate electricity for operating a hybrid engine or recharging batteries by use of an electricity generating driveshaft.  The electricity generating driveshaft is comprised of a magnetized driveshaft which acts as a rotor, and a series of copper wire coils surrounding the magnetized driveshaft which acts as a stator in an electrical generator.  As the magnetized driveshaft spins as a result of power from the hybrid engine, an electrical fiel...

ENGINEERING CHARACTERIZATION OF OGBEKE CLAY DEPOSIT FOR INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS

The engineering characterization of Ogbeke clay deposit has been investigated with a view of finding its usefulness in furnace refractory production and home. The chemical composition analysis was carried out using Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS). The physical properties tests such as shrinkage, porosity, water absorption, modulus of rupture, refractoriness, moisture content, plasticity, cold crushing strength, thermal shock resistance and particles size analysis were carried out using i...

Comparative Analysis of Practical Skills Acquisition in Electrical/Electronic Engineering Training Program in Accra and Kumasi Polytechnics in Ghana.

This research was designed to comparatively analyze practical skills acquisition in the Electrical/Electronic Engineering department in Accra and Kumasi Polytechnics. The study population was made of 578 students in the Department of Electrical/Electronic Engineering from the two study institutions respectively. A sample size of 25% was randomly selected from the total population. A total number of 145 questionnaires were distributed and 123 completed questionnaires were received making a res...

Improving the Availability of the Onitsha-New Haven 330kv Transmission Line Availability Using Adaptive PMU-Based Insulation Defect Detector

This thesis is aimed at improving the availability of the New Haven-Onitsha 330kV transmission line byusing an adaptive PMU based insulation defect detecting and location scheme. The exposed nature ofoverhead power lines makes overhead power transmission lines very vulnerable to various kinds of faults.Insulation-related faults contribute reasonably to the number of faults experienced in overheadtransmission lines. These faults cause outages in the network and reduce the availability of thetr...

Investigation of Industrial potential of Amechi Idodo Clay Deposit in Enugu State

The Clay deposits has been investigated for its industrial potentials.  The chemical analysis was determined using Atomic Absorption spectrophotometer (AAS).  The physical properties conducted such as linear shrinkage, apparent density, apparent porosity, bulk density, water absorption and modulus of rupture were conducted using standard technique.  The results on the chemical composition of the clay composed of Al2O3 (29.10%), SiO3 (53.04%), Na2O3 (2.15%), MgO (1.15%), Fe2O3 (1.70%), CaO ...

Development of Mechanical Yam Vibrator with Adjustable Frequency and Amplitude at Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun Nigeria

Overtime weight loss and sprouting of yam tubers during storage had been creating issues among farmers and storage Engineers. Interaction of energy with matter has tendency of bringing change in the matter. To establish the effect of mechanical vibration on the physical properties of yam tubers and sprouts; this study therefore developed mechanical yam vibrator with adjustable frequency and amplitude at Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, Ogun Nigeria. A mechanical yam vibrator ...

EFFECT OF MESH, BOUNDARY CONDITION AND TURBULENCE MODELS ON TURBULENT SEPERATED FLOW OVER A FORWARD-BACKWARD-FACING STEP

CFD investigation of mesh, boundary condition and location, and the effect of turbulence models on the turbulent separated flow over a forward-backward-facing step. A numerical model was set up to replicate and compare with the model in the literature. The Reynolds number, Re, is 1.7E5  based on step height 50 mm and obstacle length L = 10H. The freestream velocity of air at the inlet is 50 m/s. The simulation was performed using the ANSYS software.

Hyperthermic Treatment of Breast Cancer using Biomedical Antenna

Anatomical variation in the human body presents a complex challenge to design a universal antenna for all. The presence of the human body in close proximity to the antenna also presents a challenge as the near field strongly couples with a lossy medium. Other challenges include design of an antenna that is small in size without affecting its radiation pattern, efficiency, gain etc. In this work design of a biomedical antenna for cancer treatment using voxal parameters for doing SAR (specific ...

Numerical Investigation of Mesh Material Properties on Heat Convection and Conduction of a Vertical Impinging Round Jet onto a Horizontal Surface (Stationary and Moving)

Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), this paper investigates the effect of mesh material properties on the heat convection and conduction (fluid-solid interaction) of a vertical impinging round jet onto a stationary and moving horizontal surface, as well as the effect of conjugation in the solid domain. This paper is an excerpt from an assignment in Numerical Thermoflow that was completed in 2021 during my Bachelor of Science Honours in Applied Science Mechanics at the University of Pret...

Development of a Smart Motion Detection Device for Home and Office Security Applications

The aim of this paper is to develop, implement and test an effective and practical working solution to a smart motion detector for LPWAN technologies using appropriate software and hardware platform. The smart motion detection system consists of a Raspberry Pi, an LCD display, PIR sensors, and wires. The hardware design collaborates with Python programming by being installed on a Raspberry Pi, and it is a key function to detect who is entering a room. The proposed smart motion detector wi...

Smart Digital Thermometer for Covid-19 Detection

During the COVID-19 epidemic, taking temperatures has been a major focus. The aim of this project is to implement a prototype of a cheap and high reliability digital temperature measurement device with the aid of Arduino Nano, Infrared temperature sensor (MXL90614), OLED 128 X 64 (0.96-inch screen size), IR sensor and buzzer. This thermometer uses an infrared sensor MXL90614 to detect the body temperature and then sends the reading to the microcontroller. If there is no human presence nea...

Implementation of an Intelligent Motion Detector

This project is intended to provide a solution to a company's problem of developing a smart motion detection device for home and office security applications. The company intends to deploy 100s of these motion detectors throughout the Greater London Area. As a result, each motion detector will require a low power wide area network (LPWAN) wireless interface. Unlike traditional motion detectors, which detect only motion, the proposed motion detector will be able to detect motion direction (...
