Abstract

The study was conducted in Khartoum hospital during the period from October 2013 to September 2013. The aim of the study was to determine the frequency of infection by E.histolytica and G.lamblia in Khartoum hospital .Hundred patients were included in this study, 61 were males and 39 were females with different age ranging from 1-70 years. Stool samples were collected from all patients. The stool samples were examined to detect the cyst of E.histolytica and G.lamblia by using wet preparation and count the cyst by using concentration technique (formal ether concentration technique). 22 out of 100 were infected with E.histolytica and 14 out of 100 were infected with G.lamblia. 30 out of 100 have previous infection with E.histolytica and 14 out of 100 have previous infection with G.lamblia. The infection increase among the age group (11-20) years. The infection was high among patients with low education level (48%). Statistically, there was no relationship between infection and age, sex, education level and type of latrine (P > 0.05).
