ABSTRACT
This research sought to identify Home Economics Teachers contribution in supporting students in Senior High Schools with specific reference to all the five (5) public / government Senior High Schools of the Ghana Education Service within the Ejisu –Juaben Municipality. The schools consisted of: Ejisuman Senior High School; Juaben Senior High School; Ejisu Senior High Technical School; Bonwire Senior High Technical School and Achinakrom Senior High School. The methodology for the study was a descriptive quantitative survey with a population of twenty (20) respondents which included Home Economics Teachers, Heads of Departments and Assistant Headmasters of the selected public Senior High Schools. The sampling technique used in the selection of the respondents was the purposive non-probability sampling. Questionnaire was the main data collection instrument used. Data was analyzed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS software. The results of the findings indicated that, teachers’ knowledge has effect on students’ performance and that, students’ academic performance can improve if they study hard and do not depend only on their teachers’ knowledge on the subject matter. The study recommended that, all Home Economics teachers be given the opportunity to undergo consistent and timely refresher courses on: teaching methodologies; student-teacher relationship and how to guide students to pass their examination.
