Impact of microfinance banks and the socio-economic development of the areas of their operation.

ABSTRACT

The study is a descriptive survey designed to examine impact of micro finance banks and the socio-economic development of the areas of their operation. A total of eighty-five respondents were selected from Wetland Micro finance bank and its area of operation in Warri, Delta State to form a sample size. A test and retest method was used to determine the reliability of the questionnaire items. The data collected from the field through the administration of questionnaire was organized, using frequency distribution table, simple percentage and non-parametric test of significance known as Chi-Square (X2) was used to test the hypotheses formulated. The findings showed that there is a significant relationship between micro finance bank and socio-economic development of the areas of their operation. The study therefore recommends among others that government through their monetary and economic policies should provide a suitable ground for the growth of micro finance bank in the country.
