ABSTRACT
In recent decades, significant strides have been made towards gender difference or equity in various aspects of society, including sports. However, the influence of gender on sports participation and performance remains a complex and multifaceted issue. This study aims to comprehensively investigate the influence of gender on sport participation and performance.
The population was drawn from athlete male and female students in sport center, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State. One hundred and fifty (150) respondents (athlete) participated in the study.. Data generated was analyzed, demographic data of the participant was analyzed using frequency distribution and percentage while regression and chi-square analysis was used to test the hypothesis at the 0.05 level of significance with the aid of Statistical Package for Social Sciences IBM SPSS version 24 software.
The findings showed that there was there was significance influence of biological factor on sports participation and performance based on gender, there was significance influence of socio-cultural factor and sports participation and performance based on gender, it also revealed that psychosocial factor influence sports participation and performance based on gender and socio-economic factor influence sports participation and performance based on gender
It can be concluded that there is positive influence of gender on sport participation and performance. The findings recommended that institution should ensure that individuals of all genders have equal access to sports facilities, equipment, coaching, and resources. This can help level the playing field and provide equal opportunities for skill development and performance.
