This study set out to determine the influence of manager characteristics on strategy implementation by private universities in Kenya. The study was guided by manager demographics, manager personality and manager communication as the independent variables, while strategy implementation was  the dependent variable and manager discretion the moderating variable. This approach essentially integrates the theoretical perspectives of the upper echelons theory and Higgin’s 8 S’s Model under the strategic management domain. The study was grounded on the positivism philosophical approach. It adopted a cross-sectional research design with a population of 3,594 top managers, middle managers and lecturers involved in strategy implementation in the 23 private universities accredited by the Commission for University Education (CUE) in Kenya as at 2017. Stratified random sampling was employed to pick a sample of 360 respondents. A structured questionnaire was used for data collection. The data was analyzed using both descriptive and inferential statistics. Relationships were established using Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) in particular path analysis to construct the linkage between the dimension of manager characteristics and strategy implementation. The Analysis of Moment Structures (AMOS) version 23 was used to construct a conceptual model linking the variables under study.
