ABSTRACT
Water plays a very vital role in our daily lives. Human and other forms of life practically depend on water for survival. Water also plays an important role in the World Economy, as it functions as a solvent for a wide variety of chemical substances and facilitates industrial cooling and transportation. Water is an infinite resource; it moves continually through the water cycle and covers about 71 percent of the earth’s surface. However, clean and safe drinking water is becoming scarcer due to pollution. Water pollution occurs when pollutants are directly or indirectly discharged into water bodies without adequate treatment to remove harmful compounds. Water pollution is a major global problem which requires ongoing evaluation and revision of water resource policy at all levels – international down to individual aquifers and wells.
