ABSTRACT
E-cigarette smoking is linked to mental health disorders in youth in the US, with studies showing significant associations. Sexual minorities may be at higher risk of stress-related substance use behaviours and mental health disorders. This case study examines the behavioural consequences and long-term adverse health effects of youth smoking. This case study examines the link between e-cigarette smoking and mental health disorders among US youth. The introduction of electronic cigarette devices has led to a shift in tobacco products, with e-cigarettes becoming the most commonly used among middle and high school students. Limited research exists on the longitudinal association between noncigarette tobacco use and cigarette smoking initiation. The evidence suggests an association between internalising and externalising problems and e-cigarette, combustible cigarette, and dual-product use. E-cigarette use may cause physical and mental health problems, with adverse effects such as breathing difficulty, asthma, and COPD. University students are also linked to mental health issues like ADHD, PTSD, gambling disorders, anxiety, and impulsivity. E-cigarette smoking is linked to mental health disorders among youth in the US, including ADHD, PTSD, gambling disorders, anxiety, and depression. Adolescents with high externalising problems are more likely to initiate e-cigarette and combustible cigarette use. However, longitudinal research on long-term effects is lacking, and further research is needed to fully understand the relationship between e-cigarette smoking and mental health disorders.
