Quality and Productivity of Teachers in Selected Public Primary Schools in Apac District Uganda

ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between teacher quality and Teacher performance in the selected Primary schools of Apach District Uganda. The study was guided by the following objectives; i) finding out the profile of the respondents, ii) level of teacher quality, iii) level of teacher productivity and finding out the relationship between level of teacher quality and level of teacher productivity. Descriptive correlational survey research design was employed by the study. The methods used for data collection were questionnaires to the 90 teachers from the schools which participated in the study. Findings indicated that there is a low level of teacher quality in Apach district primary schools. The study also discovered that their level of productivity is satisfactory, the study further found a strong positive relationship between teacher quality and their productivity. Recommendations included Government making facilities at school for different subjects’ teachers to teach in a conducive environment in order to aid the performance of teachers. It further recommended that the government should make sure that it facilitates unqualified teachers to go for further studies to improve the performance of these teachers.
