Reasons For Poor Performance Of Girls In Science In Primary Schools In Nyanza Province: A Case Study Of Bolo Zone, West Nyakach Division, Nyakach District

Abstract This research was about reasons for poor performance of girts in science in

primary schools. This study was guided by three objectives; to identify reasons

for poor performance, to suggest measures to improve the performance of pupils,

to find out pupils attitude towards science.

The study was descriptive were purposive sampling was used to select the

population. Using this sampling technique, 40 respondents were chosen to

represent the whole population of Bolo zone.

Among the reasons for poor performance were teachers' critical role, mental and

physical development, lack of qualified teachers, lack of practical part, social

economic background and personality. Measures that were used to improve

performance are teaching aids, effective teachers, practicing, and guidance and

motivation techniques. Pupils had a negative attitude against science. Among the

recommendations given were; government should provide scholastic materials to

schools, creation of a good and favouring learning environment, encourage

teachers to teach well, ministry of education should sensitize the public among

others.
