AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE EFFECT OF FLOOD ON RADIOACTIVITY LEVEL OF WATER SEDIMENT IN MAKURDI RIVER BENUE STATE

In this work, the radiation monitor 4/4EC was used to measure radiations. The radiations in seven different locations were monitored and measured. The mean of all the readings were taken and subtracted from the background radiation and the radiological survey of the Makurdi River at seven different locations showed no gamma, beta and alpha measurements above typical background levels (5 to 25 at random intervals). The expected dose equivalence of the samples are within acceptable dose limits recommended by ICRP. This indicates that the flood did not significantly affect the radioactivity level of the river and the sample locations are within safety limits for operations.
