Sorption of refampicin on variable soil

Sorption and desorption of rifampicin was assessed on three different soil. Sorption mechanism was studied in terms of equilibrium and kinetics at different pH. Linear, Freundlich and Langmuir isotherm models were adopted to study the isotherm. The experimental data were best described by pseudo-second order kinetics (R2 = 1.00). It was observed that rifampicin absorbs better on soil with lowest organic carbon content. Sorption was observed to increase with decrease in aqueous pH and increase in ionic strength. The study observed gradual decrease in rifampicin sorption with increasing concentration of dissolved organic matter. The soil mineral phase seems to be better surface for adsorption of rifampicin
