THE EFFECT OF AUDIO-VISUAL MATERIALS ON THE TEACHING AND LEARNING OF BUSINESS STUDIES IN EKITI STATE JUNIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL

ABSTRACT


This study investigated the effect of audio-visual materials on the teaching and learning of business studies in Ekiti State Junior Secondary School. Three objectives and research questions were formulated to guide the researcher in the conduct of the research. The study adopted descriptive statistical tools of mean rating standard deviation design involved two hundred (200) students for the study. Data for the study were collected during teaching learning process. The instruments used for data collection was questionnaire. The major findings of the study indicated that the use of audio-visual materials has greater significant influence on the performance of Business Studies students in Junior Secondary Schools.It also reveals that female students takes the highest percentage in participation and performance in business studies class using audio-visual materials in the teaching and learning process. It also indicated that the use of audio-visual materials aid the retention capacity of the students, so as not to easily forget what they have learnt. Finally, the researcher recommended that there is ardent need for government and stake holders to provide audio-visual aids in the schools to facilitate teaching-learning process. Furthermore, there is the need to review the NCE and Degree curriculum for business studies to incorporate a course that entails techniques of operating audio-visual aids so as to train prospective business studies teachers how to use the materials effectively.
