THE EXTENT OF INTEGRATION IN THE GHANAIAN SHS INTEGRATED SCIENCE SYLLABUS

Integrated science is an approach by which scientific concepts and principles are presented in manner to express the fundamental unity of thought in science so as to avoid undue stress distinction among the various scientific field.  This implies that science must not be put into separate disciplines like physics, chemistry or biology when being presented. This means that an integrated science curriculum should not have separate discipline like physics, chemistry and biology and for that matter topics must cut across various scientific discipline so that no topic stands on its own as biology, physics or chemistry topics. With this idea in mind this sought to find out the extent of integration in the Ghanaian SHS integrated syllabus.

            An analysis of the syllabus was done using the under-listed three criteria as a guide: 

i.                    multi disciplinarity

ii.                  nature of integration

iii.                expression of fundamental unity
