The Impact Of Feeding Programme On Enrolment And Drop Out In Ecde Centers, In Mogogosiek Zone, Bureti District-Kenya

Abstract

In the recent past enrollment in preschools in Mgogosiek Zone Bureti district in Kenya

has been twindling and dropping as such the study was intended to establish the effects of

a feeding programme on enrollment and drop out.

The centre of the study lies in the idea that a feeding programme affects the health of

children thus affecting enrollment and drop out .

A feeding programme in preschools will improve enrollment and curb drop out in that

children will associate learning in pre school with provision of food, such programme

will enhance physical and cognitive development of a child

The study had the following jour objectives to establish whether there is feeding

programme in ECD centers, to asses the quantity and quality of food provided, to

investigate the effects of a feeding programme on enrollment and drop out rate and to

find out wcys of improving enrollment and curbing drop out in pre schools.

In order to accomplish its purpose the researcher adopted action research as it design.

The design was most appropriate in that the problem studied is based in a locality.

The study used simple descriptive statistics in analyzing data. The data extracted from

questionnaires. Quetionnaires were appropriate for both teachers and parents since

respondents were free in responding to questions.

The data extracted from questionnaires and observation checklist was analyzed using

frequency tables and percentages.

Based on the findings, it is recommended that the community in conjunction with

government to double its support, by employing pre-school teachers and support feeding

programmes in ECD centers.

It was hoped that this study would provide a basis for forther research by other educationists to find out a lasting solution to the problem affecting pre-scholars.
